The world itself McCarthy creates (loosely based on true events) is a barren landscape of death and destruction. A brutally violent death lurks nearby in the shadows. In the end we follow the journey of The Kid to its ultimate conclusion and are left with more questions than answers regarding his fate. In an epic final scene written perfectly by McCarthy each reader no doubt feels a range of emotions. What will yours be? The truth about the world, he said, is that anything is possible.
