Reference: Art Sinsabaugh Archive – In 1978 Art Sinsabaugh established an archive for his work at the Indiana University Art Museum, Bloomington. At some point I became aware of the unbelievable infinite detail on the horizon; this is what drew my attention. So I set about to pursue the distant horizon. He developed a unique methodology that utilized the extra-large-format contact prints cropped (sometimes dramatically) to evoke the sweeping horizons he saw in nature. He was a landscape photographer in the broadest sense: he photographed the spacesboth rural and urbanthat we inhabit. Sinsabaughs photographs possess a remarkable quality of timeless beauty, while at the same time documenting a specific time and place. His straightforward, detached viewpoint and inclusion of ordinary scenes foreshadowed the environmental concerns of the New Topographic photographers of the 1970s. Self-educated, he rose to become a successful copywriter and business owner in Cleveland and Elyria, Ohio. In 1912, Anderson had a nervous breakdown that led him to abandon his business and family to become a writer. At the time, he moved to Chicago and was eventually married three additional times. His most enduring work is the short-story sequence Winesburg, Ohio, [1] which launched his career. Throughout the 1920s, Anderson published several short story collections, novels, memoirs, books of essays, and a book of poetry. Jonathan Williams (1929 2008) was an American poet, publisher, essayist, and photographer. He is known as the founder of The Jargon Society, which has published poetry, experimental fiction, photography, and folk art since 1951. At the time of this publication it also used the name “Nantahala Foundation”. Cavemodern was founded in 2005 as a home for important “modern” books and works on paper. “Cave” meant a home for both the tangible touch of beautiful objects and a cozy virtual den for armchair exploration. “Modern” starts with the art and literature that went beyond realistic depictions to expressive use of color, non-traditional materials, and new techniques and mediums. Our focus has evolved to be on important pieces by cultural innovators that take their work in new, unexpected, and modern directions.
